FAQ

The practical questions are already covered here, so applicants can move from curiosity to action quickly.

Section 1

Participation

Eligibility, team formation, and registration basics

Who can participate in TechOn 2026?

+

TechOn is open to students across disciplines who want to build. Developers, designers, operators, and entrepreneurial teammates are all welcome.

Do I need to already have a team?

+

No. Solo applications are accepted, and team formation support will be available at the opening event. Existing teams can apply directly, with up to 4 people per team.

What if I am a beginner with limited hackathon experience?

+

That is fine. TechOn should work for first-timers and experienced builders alike. The format is built around learning fast, shipping under pressure, and asking for help when needed.

Is there a registration fee?

+

No. Registration is free.

Section 2

Technical

What to bring, what you can use, and what support exists

What should I bring to the hackathon?

+

Bring your laptop, chargers, any hardware you want to prototype with, and anything else your workflow depends on. Meals, snacks, drinks, and internet are provided on site.

What technologies and frameworks can we use?

+

Use the stack that best fits your solution. Web, mobile, AI, hardware, automation, and other approaches are all fair game unless a specific challenge says otherwise.

Will there be development resources at the venue?

+

Yes. The venue setup includes Wi-Fi, power access, collaboration areas, and spaces for team reviews or focused work.

Are there any restrictions on pre-existing code or ideas?

+

You can arrive with ideas, research, and publicly available tools in mind. The actual project implementation should happen during the event window.

What if I run into technical issues during the event?

+

Organisers and mentors will be available throughout the event weekend to help with practical issues, unblock teams, and point you toward the right support.

Section 3

Logistics

Schedule, food, venue access, and practical details

What are the exact dates for TechOn 2026?

+

TechOn runs from May 30 to June 2, 2026. The schedule page breaks down each stage.

Will food and drinks be provided?

+

Yes. Meals, snacks, and drinks are part of the event experience so teams can stay on site and keep building.

Where exactly is the venue and how do I get there?

+

TechOn takes place at Open Space Heilbronn, Weipertstrasse 8-10, 74076 Heilbronn, Germany. The venue page includes the map, address, and transport guidance.

Can I leave the venue during the hackathon?

+

Yes. Participants can leave and return during the event, but should keep any event credentials or check-in information with them for a smooth re-entry process.

Section 4

Rules & Judging

Submission expectations and how projects are assessed

What are the main rules and guidelines?

+

Teams can have up to 4 people, projects should be built during the event, and teams are expected to respect deadlines, organisers, and other participants throughout the full experience.

What do we need to submit?

+

Expect to submit your working project materials, typically including code, a short explanation of what you built, and whatever demo format the organisers request closer to finals.

How will projects be judged?

+

Challenges, execution quality, clarity of solution, and final-stage presentation all matter. TechOn culminates with the top 3 teams pitching live on stage at TECH by Handelsblatt.

What happens if our project is unfinished?

+

That is normal in hackathons. A clear prototype, honest explanation, and strong core idea are usually more valuable than pretending a rushed build is complete.

Can we continue working on the project after the event?

+

Yes. TechOn is a launch point, not just a deadline. Strong projects can keep evolving after the event.

Section 5

Prizes & Support

Awards, mentorship, and what happens around the final stretch

What prizes can we win?

+

Prize details live on the prizes page. The headline outcome is that the top teams earn awards and the top 3 pitch live at the TECH conference finals.

What kind of mentorship and support is available?

+

Mentors, organisers, and challenge-side support should be available throughout the hacking phases to help teams make better technical and product decisions.

How are prizes distributed among team members?

+

Exact distribution depends on the prize category. If a category has specific team versus individual rules, organisers will clarify those before awards are handed out.
